Mayor Charged With Obstructing Justice
On Thursday October 18, Mayor John D Close was served with a summons to appear in criminal court to answer to the charge of "obstructing justice", Section 139 (2) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
This is a criminal offence which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years. The charge stems from John's alleged instruction to the OPP to not lay any charges against Joe Szewczyk for driving on the beach. The hearing is set for Nov 15th, 2012.

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is seeking interested individuals to serve on an Ad Hoc Committee to consider the Draft Environmental Study Report for Water and Sewage at Sauble Beach which was presented to Council in 2011.
The Terms of Reference for this Committee are available on the Town website, at Town Hall or by contacting the undersigned.

The chiefs of two neighbouring first nations have written to John Close to congratulate him on his election as mayor of South Bruce Peninsula and have included a reminder the town is within traditional Saugeen Ojibway territory and that the municipality has a long list of obligations concerning aboriginal and treaty rights.

Budget Process Policy Amendment aims to circumvent the "lame duck"council.
"The statement giving the Treasurer the authority to change the timetable is imperative in order to accommodate municipal elections (the lame duck Council cannot make binding decisions of values exceeding $50,000) and other unforeseen circumstances."

This Sauble sewer issue would have been passed beforehand and we would have ended up paying exhorbitantly for a system that was flawed and inefficient for future means. The county forest south of the Sauble Falls campground is apparently the new target site with underground discharge and overflow to the Sauble River at peak times.
There are two underground aquifers under Sauble that are utilized for private water supplies one shallow and one deep. The shallow one would be subject to contamination; no matter how clean, the effluent would still be surface water.

Everyone who has a private water source at Sauble should be concerned about the integrity of their sand points and wells if a plant with underground discharge at the county forest is allowed to proceed. Even with a small first phase start, sewage will be collected from south Sauble residences and the area around the main street and the discharge will be underground in the area north of 6th Street and west of the Parkway.

According to a press release from the Grey Bruce Health Unit, issued Friday at 2:25 p.m. Sauble Beach is now safe for swimming.

Sauble better, but still posted
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has received notification from the Grey Bruce Health Unit that the latest water sampling of Lake Huron at Sauble Beach has shown a significant decrease in bacteria levels from 2800 to 200.

TAKE NOTICE that a Public Meeting will be held by the Planning Advisory Committee of Council of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula on Thursday July 22, 2010 at 5:00 pm at the Town of South Bruce Peninsula Council Chambers. 315 George St, Wiarton ON. The purpose of the Public Meeting is to consider an amendment to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula Official Plan and to discuss a proposed Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for Wiarton, Sauble Beach, Hepworth and Allenford.

Sauble posted unsafe for swimming; First time in memory.
Mayor Gilbert blamed recent rains for the test results.
"When I was talking to Blue Flag they said this is not uncommon for other beaches to test poorly on occasions such as this . . . we've had high volumes of rain quickly and that impacts on the counts."
She said she was confident future tests would show the water to be well within provincial standards.

Water and Sewage Works Study
Addendum Process NO.3
Town of South Bruce Peninsula
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has commissioned a review of options presented in Addendum No.2
- REVISED to the previously completed Water and Sewage Works Environmental Study Report (ESR) for
the Sauble Beach and Hepworth areas. The Municipality has retained GENIVAR Consultants LP to
complete this review and prepare Addendum NO.3 to the ESR.
The recommended wastewater servicing option identified in Addendum No. 2 - REVISED involved
servicing of only the Development Control Area (DCA) of Sauble Beach. The proposed wastewater
treatment plant location is east of Sauble Beach at the north end of Municipal Road (Part Lot 18,
Concession C) near the Sauble River.
Alternative sewage servicing options will be examined under the Addendum No.3 process including:
- Review sewer service area
- Review wastewater treatment plant locations
- Review wastewater treatment process
- Review effluent discharge locations
A public information meeting will be held on Saturday July 10, 2010 from 10:00am ? Noon and 2:00 ? 4:00pm at the Sauble Beach Community Centre on Community Centre Drive.
